In March 2001, El Guapo recorded their debut album for Dischord Records, "super/system," with Phil Manley of Trans Am at National Recording Studio. The 18-song, 42-minute final edit -- hailed by People Magazine as the "Pet Sounds" of Washington, D.C. post-punk -- is a testament to the band's multi-instrumental versatility and innovative approach to music making.

El Guapo was born as a two-piece in Washington, D.C. in 1996. In ’01, the band recorded its first album for Dischord Records, "Super/System", with Phil Manley at NRS. "Fake French", El Guapo's second Dischord release, followed in ’03. The group would later add drummer Josh Blair, rechristen itself as "Supersystem" and recorded two albums for Touch and Go before disbanding in 2006. ... more
